We met in early 2009 at a party set up by our mutal friends who schemed to introduce Joel and I ... to entirely different people! We didn't hit it off with who we were intended to meet, but instantly felt a connection with each other over a fun game of Wii Bowling (which Joel would like to note he kicked my butt at!)

After that night, Joel chased down my number from my girlfriend and called me. I was living in Banff at the time, Joel in Crossfield a two hour drive away, but he drove back and forth to Banff every chance he could get! Even for just an hour. 

"It was bad. I spent more on gas than the dates we went on...but whatever. I was in love." ~Joel

Then, unexpected news... we were pregnant! Living in Banff was no longer an option, so I moved to Crossfield to start our family. A year later on May 2nd, Joel asked me to marry him!

When Joel asked me to marry him, I had a very special date in mind. My grandparents, Fred & Edwina Seddon, were ever present in my life growing up. They were like a second set of parents for me. Their marriage lasted through the thick and thin, with their love growing stronger every year. They were married on a Friday in September... Friday the 13th. 

This normally unlucky date was very lucky for them, and since they passed before I married, what better way to honour them and borrow some luck from their anniversary date!

So, I looked up the next Friday the 13th in September. It would be September 13th 2013! 

A wedding is just one day, it's every other day that really counts in a marriage. I opted out of the big wedding plans, and Joel happily agreed, and instead wanted a nice vacation we could share together.
